As you may have heard Johnny Gaudreau is the first players in 20 plus years to be traded OR not re signed after having a outstanding 115 point season, but why isn't Gaudreau returning to Calgary? Gaudreau stated he would like to me closer to his newly married wife and his newborn baby who is arriving shortly- and chose the Columbus Blue Jackets for roughly $15 million less than what the Flames offered. Clearly Gaudreau respects his family, and money is not the reasoning for leaving Calgary.
Well Calgary Flames fans have unfortunately forced Johnny and his wife to turn off the commenting feature on there social media after receiving multiple vulgar messages and even to the extent of death threats surfacing their pages.
The fight that Flames fans are putting up is how Columbus is still 6 hours away from his friends and family in New Jersey. Gaudreau responded to similar comments in his feature in the Spittin Chiclets podcast and stated it is the perfect distance as he will not be bombarded with family, but will be a drive away.
It's also believed that there has been a barrier between Gaudreau in Calgary, Canada and his family in New Jersey, USA. Canadas vaccination policies aren't working in there favor but with Gaudreau moving to Columbus that will not be a single issue.
