The deal is worth $8.5 million with an average annual value of $4.25 million. Athanasiou, 28, impressed last season with 40 points (20 goals, 20 assists) in 81 games, finishing strong with 12 points in the final 10 games.
This signing sets up a potential partnership between Athanasiou and top draft pick Connor Bedard. Throughout his career, Athanasiou has accumulated 125 goals and 111 assists in 459 games with the Blackhawks, Kings, Oilers, and Red Wings.
