The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) has officially implemented a fighting ban for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

The rule, confirmed by QMJHL insiders, including Mikael Lalancette and Stephane Leroux of RDS, outlines penalties for fights: an automatic game misconduct instead of a major penalty, a 10-minute misconduct, a one-game suspension for the instigator, and a two-game suspension for the aggressor.

«Automatic game misconduct for a fight instead of a major penalty and a 10-minute misconduct. Automatic one-game suspension for the instigator.
Two-game suspension for an aggressor.»

This ban follows a decline in fighting in both the QMJHL and NHL. Enrico Ciccone, a former NHL enforcer and Quebec's national assembly member, has been a proponent of the move. The impact on young QMJHL prospects transitioning to the NHL remains uncertain, as they have grown up without fighting as a significant aspect of their development.
