BREAKING NEWS - Jonathan Toews Set to Return to Play
Huge news for Chicago Blackhawks fans! On March 28th, it was reported that team captain Jonathan Toews was attempting to make a comeback from his indefinite injuries earlier this year, with retirement being a consideration. Blackhawks fans were hoping for a final send-off for Toews.
Jonathan Toews on whether he's contemplating retirement: "To be fully honest, I'm not near making that decision yet. I don't feel like with what I've been through this year and this past season that I have enough clarity on what that decision is going to be." #Blackhawks
In February, Toews issued a statement detailing his health-related challenges, which were threatening his ability to play. He disclosed that he was still dealing with the symptoms of Long COVID and Chronic Immune Response Syndrome and had no choice but to step back and concentrate on getting healthy.
Fortunately, today's announcement indicates that Toews' health has improved since then, which is cause for celebration.
Toews' return is not just about giving the team a better chance of winning a few more games this season, as the Blackhawks are currently in prime contention to earn the best odds for the upcoming draft lottery. Instead, his return injects much-needed meaning and significance to what remains of the Blackhawks' season, as it could be the fans' final few chances to see a franchise icon take the United Center ice.
