BREAKING - NHL Head Coach Violates His Contract & is Likely to be fined
On Thursday night, John Tortorella, facing his old team (Columbus) for the first time in years, hestormed out of the arena after the Flyers suffered a humiliating loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
''He walked out of the arena, no explanation no nothing'' says a Flyers reporter Giana Jade who was one of several Flyers reporters waiting for Tortorella to appear for the post-game media availability.
Tortorella was questioned the next morning about the cause of his abrupt disappearance. Was it the 5-2 loss? Was he upset with his team? Reporters were asking Torts several questions. None of your business, was his reply.
The fact that Tortorella stormed out of the arena without addressing to the media raises a problem since all NHL head coaches are obligated under their contracts and as part of their compensation to address the media following each and every game.
''The NHL requires head coaches to talk after games. Tortorella instead sent associate coach Brad Shaw to speak after the loss to the Jackets.''
''I think during his career, he's almost always talked to the media after every game,» GM Chuck Fletcher said.'' I don't think it will be an issue moving forward.''
Asked why Tortrorella declined to speak Thursday, Fletcher said: «I can't speak for John. It's up to John to speak for him.»
The NHL is"handling" the problem, according to a spokesman. Throughout his career, Tortorella has received multiple fines for similar situations- will we be seeing another one today?
