Tonight is the night. The time is right. The man, the myth, the legend that is Carey Priceis back. The 34 year old Canadiens goalie will make his season debut at home, starting against the New York Islanders. This marks his first appearance with his team since the 2021 Stanley Cup Final. At Montréal's practice this morning, it appeared as if Price was preparing as the starting goaltender, and interim coach Martin St. Louis confirmed as much with an announcement, afterwards. The last time we saw Price in game condition was July 7, 2021, when the Tampa Bay Lightning eliminated the Canadiens from the Final in Game 5. After knee surgery, and the rejection from the Seattle Kraken expansion draft, the Hart and Vezina Trophy winning goalie voluntarily entered the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. He was transparent about his situation, making an Instagram statement in November, saying, «Over the last few years, I have let myself get to a very dark place and I didn't have the tools to cope with that struggle. I made the decision to enter a residential treatment facility for substance abuse. Things had reached a point that I realized I needed to prioritize my health for both myself and for my family. Asking for help when you need it is what we encourage our kids to do, and it was what I needed to do." Tonight, no matter where you live, or who «your» team is, I have a feeling we'll all just be good old hockey fans. Welcome home, Mr. Price!
