The hockey world was hit with the tragic news that former NHL enforcer Gino Odjick had passed away at just 52 years old. The native of Maniwaki Quebec was drafted by the Canucks back in the 5th round of the 1990 NHL draft 86th overall.
Odjick spent the majority of his career with the Canucks playing 7 seasons before spending some time with the New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and Montreal Canadiens. Odjick was a fan favorite everywhere he played, especially in Vancouver.
Ojicks' health was going down hill since 2014 and passed away at just 52 years old. One of Odjicks's best friends, Peter Leech, would have a discussion with Vancouver Police would and the nature of Odjicks death was revealed.
I was there for the whole thing. He had a heart attack, couldn't recover from it. We knew this day was going to come, we didn't know when. We were hoping much later.
He collapsed in the clinic, thank god the nurses were there. They worked on him for 45 minutes. It was tough to watch.
Odjick was known as a man with a huge heart and someone who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Leech put it best when he described Odjick.
That's what he had. Unfortunately that big heart gave out. He lived life, we always joked. Rest in Peace Gino
On behalf of Hawks Insider we want to give our sincerest condolences to the entire Odjick family during these dark days.
