To say that the Blackhawks are devoid of talent is an understatement of the year. Throughout this season, general manager Kyle Davidson has been busy tearing this team down to the wood and sending off many key talented players including, superstar Patrick Kane, serviceable players like Sam Lafferty and shut down to players like Jake McCabe to recuperate draft picks and prospects to help speed up the process.
One name that has been mentioned recently, is Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy. Murphy is the other shutdown defenseman that the Blackhawks have and if he was made available would garner support across the league.
According to cap friendly, Murphy holds a $4.4 million cap hit for another three seasons. The 30-year-old defenceman played 80 games this season, had seven goals and six assists for 13 points and had a - 10. He also held 69 penalty minutes.
His shutdown ability and defensive play would be a huge bolster to any team that would want his services standing at 6 foot 4 and 212 pounds, he would cause all kinds of grief for the opponents.
I would hate to see him traded from the Blackhawks because they could use a player like this during their rebuilding phase. However, as next year's trade deadline approaches, I could see Murphy being traded for more draft picks for the following NHL draft in 2024.
