And for hockey players who make it to the NHL, the welcome to the league, kid! moments are a normal occurrence, so while the player may feel down and out, the head coach is no stranger and will coach the struggling player as best they can.
Caleb Jones is a recent example of a player who was shown an example by his head coach Luke Richardson of a great player who struggled and made a costly mistake, despite being a high-profile player.
Coach Richardson showed Jones a video of a brutal mistake by Lightning rearguard Mikhail Sergachev, to reassure the young defender that mistakes aren't foreign territory and that they are best suited as a learning curve rather than something to dwell upon.
Richardson dealt with his young defenceman with such expertise. Looks as though the Canadiens loss of Richardson was the Blackhawks gain in a big way.
