Being named the captain of a sports team, whether it's professional, amateur, or junior, is always an honour. This title is usually given to a person who the coach feels is the best leader in the room and can bring the team together, especially during tough times.
Today, Blackhawks forward prospect Landon Slaggert was named captain of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hockey team for the 2023-2024 season.
Slaggert, a 21-year-old native of South Bend, IN, can play left wing and center. He was drafted by the Blackhawks in 2020 in the third round, 79th overall. He currently stands at 6 feet tall, weighs 190 pounds, and shoots left.
According to eliteprospects.com, Slaggert is known for throwing heavy hits and using his physicality and muscle to bulldoze his way through the opposition and get himself into scoring positions.
This type of player will be vital for the Blackhawks, as they will need his strength on their third and fourth lines, including their penalty killing. Last season as an assistant, he played 35 games, scored seven goals with six assists, and had 13 points.
