Early Friday morning, the Washington Capitals announced a contract extension for former Blackhawk center Dylan Strome. The extension is for five years and will carry an average annual value of $5 million dollars.

In a separate release, Capitals general manager said, "Dylan is an intelligent and skilled center and has been a great addition to our organization. We are pleased to sign him to a long-term contract. We feel his skill set is a great fit for our team as he enters the prime years of his career at an important position."

Strome has fit in nicely with the Capitals this season. In 52 games, Strome has 11 goals and 25 assists, which is only 15 points off of his career high set in the 2018-2019 season with Chicago. Strome is only 25 years old, so locking him up as he enters his prime is a smart move for Washington. The Capitals are clinging to the top wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference, but will need to play great hockey from here on out to keep their position. Hopefully Strome can get hot after the break and help lead the Capitals playoff charge.
