When it comes to Calvin de Haan and trade rumors, it seems to be a never ending cycle. It seems his name is thrown around every year around the trade deadline as a player that the Blackhawks are looking to move. But for whatever reason, it just hasn't happened. This year however, seemed like a better time than ever to try and move him. The Blackhawks made it known that they would be active at the deadline, so many expected all contenders in need of defenseman to be calling Kyle Davidson's phone. In the end it just wasn't meant to be and Calvin de Haan will be finishing the season as a Blackhawk yet again.
Calvin de Haan has actually played decently the past 3 games or so, but that doesn't change the fact that he really has had a very lackluster season. He's sitting at just three goals on the year, two of which have come in the last five games. He's sitting on a -18 plus/minus on the year. And he only has 7 total points on the entire season. Simply put, that just isn't good enough. And it honestly could have played a part in why the Blackhawks were unable to move him at the deadline. But then again, they were able to get something for Ryan Carpenter, and he wasn't exactly on fire at the time so who knows. Calvin de Haan's contract is set to expire at the end of the season and he will become an unrestricted free agent. Hopefully the Blackhawks will find a way to possibly move him this summer before he walks in free agency. Even if it is just a fifth round pick in return like the Carpenter trade. Something is better than nothing in return and it would really be an opportunity missed if the Blackhawks let him walk and get nothing out of it.
