Even before his stellar performance against the Coyotes, there has been much speculation about who the actual Number 1 goalie in Chicago is. Supposedly, it's Mrazek. But with his slew of injuries, Stalock stepped up, and while he was out with his concussion, it was clear what was missing from the team.
Teammates have often said how entertaining it is to have Stalock on the ice - the way he plays, things he says, etc. Fortunately, he can do a lot more than entertain.
As seen in last night's game, his skills do not stop at goaltending. Need an extra defenseman? He's got your back. Any time, anywhere on the ice.
Does having Alex Stalock between the pipes mean an automatic win for Chicago? Of course not. This team still has a myriad of issues to work out - something they're clearly gearing up to do in the off-season, or even by the trade deadline. And while the Blackhawks do have some decent goaltending prospects on the line, for now, it seems that position is pretty welllocked in.
