Don Cherry Gives Brutal Honest Opinion on Shane Wright Going 4th overall
If you are Canadian and have ever watched hockey, chances are you are well aware who Don Cherry is! Don Cherry is a former broadcaster who hosted his famous and iconic show Hockey Night in Canada, but he was later on fired due to not having much of a filter. If there is one thing that's known, it is that Don Cherry is NOT a fan of show boating players! He has formerly ripped into P.K Subban for his celebrations, and does not tolerate attitude and arrogance in the game.
In this case, we have Shane Wright who was projected to go first overall but fell to fourth overall due to what NHL insiders believes is his arrogance and cockiness attitude. Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes even through a shot at Wright, saying «the player we drafted knows how to be confident without being arrogant», clearly a shot towards Shane Wright after he stared down the Canadiens draft table.
Don Cherry had his own opinion to share on Shane Wright falling to fourth overall, surprisingly it was a positive one.
I watched the draft and I'm absolutely in shock. Shane Wright goes 4th, I mean that is unbelievable to me. I hope this Kent Hughes knows what he's doing cause he's going to get all the blame.
I was absolutely shocked, shocked is the word, that they didn't pick Shane Wright. I still think he's the number one.
I'll tell you one thing, Kent Hughes better be right on this [Slafkovsky]. He better be right on him because they will be waiting for him, those fans are tough down there
As mentioned it's surprising Don Cherry shared a positive message regarding Wright, but it plays a factor in Cherry and Wright both being Canadian.
