Elliotte Friedman Drops a Bomb Regarding The Chicago Blackhawks
As the trade deadline comes closer and closer we all wonder what the Blackhawks are gonna do and what they are gonna get in return, well we got an idea on what a return for defenseman Jake McCabe could look like, and it's huge for the Blackhawks.
Their are multiple teams interested in McCabe as the Lefas, Oilers and LA Kings have all been linked to him. It's hard to get a solid shut down defenceman in the league anymore because they are so valuable, and teams that are competing for a playoff spot won't give them up. This helps out teams like the Blackhawks who aren't currently battling for a playoff spot and have a solid shut down defenceman as they are able to get more of a return for him and help out their rebuild.
McCabe is 29 and is currently on a four year $4 million deal that he signed with the Blackhawks last year. He currently has 12 points and is a +/- 2 this year which isn't bad for a struggling Blackhawks team.
Let's take a look at some comparable trade returns that McCabe could get for the Blackhawks. In 2021 the Flyers traded for defenceman Rasmussen Ristolainen and gave up Robert Hagg and a 2021 first-round pick. Another comparable trade would be the Hurricanes acquiring Brady Skjei from the New York Rangers for a 2020 first round pick.
It's safe to say that the Blackhawks could easily get a 1st round pick back for McCabe and I wouldn't be surprised if they got some other additions to go along with it.
