He wants to go to a contending team, or at least a team capable of playing in the postseason.
One such team could be the Toronto Maple Leafs. Considering that GM Kyle Dubas doesn't have a contract after this season, the stakes for his success are quite high.
Adding a top-four defenseman like Chychrun could certainly help Dubas in that endeavor. Even with his multiple injuries, Chychrun would be a great addition to the Toronto blueline.
Of course, the return has been the stumbling block thus far in consummating a deal. For the Leafs to be in the running, it would take some compromise with Arizona to get the job done.
Now, it seems this should satisfy the Coyotes GM Bill Armstrong's demand to let his defenseman be dealt.
Whether or not Dubas and the Leafs agree, is yet to be determined.
There are other various combinations for a Chychrun trade to Toronto.
Some suggest Sandin, Knies, a first-rounder and Kerfoot with Arizona retaining $2.3 million. Another suggestions was Liljegren, Robertson, and a first. Yet another suggests Holl, Sandin, Robertson, and a first.
Needless to say at some point, Chychrun will be traded. The timing right now is just not assured. If he went to Toronto, his chances of getting a Cup will be what he is looking for.
Again, he has no trade clauses, so Armstrong can deal him wherever he pleases. The Coyotes can hold tight and see what develops.
Of course, he will need to recover from his current injuries and show what he can do if he isn't traded before the season opener on October 13th.
