Naturally when a French-Canadian hockey player doesn't play in Canada, especially for the Canadiens, the rumours and chatter come about, and such is very much the case for Flames offseason acquisition Jonathan Huberdeau.
Before the trade between the Flames and Panthers, it was widely questioned where Huberdeau would sign, if not in Florida, and naturally the Montreal Canadiens were a rumoured team, many times over.
Huberdeau shared his thoughts about the connection, and rumours.
"I know a lot of people were saying that: 'Play one year [in Calgary] and then play for Montreal," Huberdeau told the 32 Thoughts podcast."As much as love Montreal, I dunno. think it's a tough city for a French- Canadian. Calgary traded for me. If Montreal wanted to trade for me, they would've traded for me. That's how see it. And want to play for a team that wants me. Calgary wanted me, so that's why I wanted to sign a big extension."
Looks like Has fans will have to stay patient, and wait until Huberdeau's contract with the Flames expires, to see if the Quebec born player comes home to Montreal before he retires.
Will he ever play in Montreal, what do you think, NHL fans?
