Leafs general manager simply stated the roster simply cannot get any better, with the depth they had all throughout the roster- how is it possible to get better with very little cap? Well Kyle Dubas stated that instead of trying to improve there roster this offseason that they will be more focused on re-signing the key pieces on the roster who have expiring contracts such as Jack Campbell, Ilya Mikheyev, Ilya Lybushkin and others.
Well Dubas didn't really speak the truth when stating what his goals were for the off season, Jack Campbell and Ilya Mikheyev both found new homes as it seems Dubas could not take on a new contract for either.
Leaf fans loved 'soup'' (Campbells nickname) but it seems as the Leafs did not so much, news released in Dubas's media conference and he released info that he did not even give Jack Campbell a single contract offer to try and keep him around, and he did not even try to see if Campbell would take a pay cut to stay a Toronto Maple Leaf.
Campbell was forced to hit the free agent market after the Leafs given up there hope for him, and has found his new home in Edmonton.
Reporter Emily Kaplan went further to release more info that the Leafs did not speak with Campbell once about a new contract after last season and that the last time they had contract negotiations were at the end of last year.
