Fifteen year-old Chloe Primerano has made history to be the first woman drafted by the Canadian Hockey League. Primerano was the 267th pick chosen by the Vancouver Giants in the 2022 WHL Draft.
Primerano has been skating since the age of three, most recently, with the Burnaby Winter Club for the past two seasons as a defenseman. Where she made an impressive name for herself by aiding 17 assists and 2 goals. Primerano is seen as a player who knows how to get in around the ice, and models her game after former Chicago Blackhawk, Duncan Keith.
Primerano is the first female skater in the WHL, however in 2002 Shannon Szabados was the first female to play in a WHL regular season game as a goaltender. In the years that followed four other women would play as goaltenders in the league, however Primerano is the first skater to be drafted. Primerano hopes her story can be an inspiration for female hockey players everywhere.
