The club announced that the future Hockey Hall-of-Famer would join Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes' staff. Poulin's official role will be to oversee player development as a consultant.
While Poulin doesn't have much experience behind the scenes, she captained her squad on three seperate occasions to triumphant gold-medal winning Olympic tournaments for her country. So, she certainly has the knowledge and know how in terms of how players mature at different stages and what is needed to grow and thrive as a professional.
Poulin, will continue her playing career, and the 31-year-old will take on a part-time role of developing individual and collective skills on the ice and in video sessions, among other tasks.
The Canadian Olympian, viewed as one of the best active women's hockey players in the world, boasts an impressive resume. She has the aforementioned three olympic gold medals, however, she is also a two-time World Champion gold medallist, a six-time World Champion silver medallist, an Olympic silver medallist and she has won two Clarkson Cups.
Tolerance and inclusion are two characteristics that the sport of hockey has been adamant on growing and Poulin is the spot-on candidate to advance that sentiment and for the position.
"Marie-Philip is one of the best players on the planet, and she has won at the highest level, which will be very beneficial for our players. Her knowledge, leadership, and vision of the game certainly make the Canadiens a better organization,» said general manager Kent Hughes. "We are thrilled with the addition of Marie-Philip Poulin to our hockey development department.»
The Canadiens are looking to embark on a new winning culture and Poulin isn't the first-step to attaining that goal, but, she is certainly an integral one.
"It is a privilege to add someone as competent as Marie-Philip Poulin in our ranks. She is the best in her field, and her accomplishments will help us build a winning culture within the Canadiens," said owner Geoff Molson . "Her arrival is another step towards achieving the diversity that we want to establish within our organization."
She earned the «C» for the Canadian womens hockey team in 2015. Nicknamed Captain Clutch, Poulin scored the three respective gold-medal clinching goals in 2010, 2014 and 2022.
