In a much-anticipated matchup on February 25th, Patrick Kane is set to make a return to the United Center when the Detroit Red Wings take on the Chicago Blackhawks. The significance of this game goes beyond Kane's return, as it coincides with the retirement ceremony for Blackhawks legend Chris Chelios, who will have his jersey raised to the rafters.
Expressing his excitement about the upcoming game, Kane stated:
«It'll be fun to go back there on February 25th. Chelios' jersey going up and the first game back on the road, so it'll be a fun night.»
Kane to play with a 'chip on' his shoulder vs Blackhawks
As anticipation builds for Kane's return to his former home ice, questions arise about the emotions he might experience. When asked about his expectations for the night, Kane replied:
«I have no idea. I've always played with a little bit of a chip on the shoulder, so hopefully I have a little bit that night and can play a good game and help the Wings win."
Kane expressed the desire to make an impact on the scoreboard, saying, "It would be fun to score a goal or have a couple of points, whatever it is. Just to play well against them.»
Reflecting on the offseason, Kane disclosed that he had hoped for a call from the Blackhawks about a potential return but acknowledged that no such offer materialized. In his words:
«Yeah, I mean, I never really knew, right? Especially after that first pick, I was like, OK, maybe they'll try to bring, even like Tazer or myself back.'
«I know when I was a young guy, it really helped having some older guys around like Robert Lang, (Martin) Havlat, Yanick Perrault and Patrick Lalime, guys like that. Obviously, we had some young guys coming up that were pretty special players, and that made it pretty easy on me, too. It seemed like they wanted to go in a direction where they were going to bring in some different type of veterans. Yeah, it's what it is. Good for them. You don't think about it too much.»
While Kane recognizes the shift in the Blackhawks' direction, he remains focused on contributing to the success of the Red Wings and delivering a memorable performance in his return to Chicago.
