As soon as he took over as GM, he cleared out whatever young talent was left over from the Stan Bowman era.
I don't agree with most of the moves, but you have to respect that he wants to do everything his own way.
Well, Elliote Friedman seems to strongly disagree with how Davidson is handling the young players in the organization.
Friedman recently came out to say the following statements:
- "I thought this was interesting, looks like he deserves an opportunity. I believe your roster should be about who deserves to be on it, and he should be playing right now on the Blackhawks roster. I thought Davidson's comments were interesting, it intrigued me."
- "I don't like tanking, the league doesn't like tanking, but we're all understanding why Davidson is taking. The Blackhawks have a plan, and its to tank. I can't say I like it, the one thing that I respect Davidson for is what he believes in and what he's doing, that plan."
- "Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks have one plan right now, and it's to get Connor Bedard. Its tough for Davidson to avoid the noise due to losing, but he's still sticking with his guns. I don't like it, but you've got to respect it."
I personally wish that Davidson held onto guys like DeBrincat, Dach, Strome, Kubalik, and some others.
With that being said, I understand why Davidson doesn't trust anything that Bowman did. I mean, he did in fact trade Brandon Hagel to Tampa and Adam Boqvist to Columbus for Seth Jones.
I think both of those trades were pretty unnecessary, as they gave away some of the top young guys that the Blackhawks had. With those trades being made by Bowman, I can understand why Davidson felt the need to get rid of guys like Dach, Kubalik, Strome, and DeBrincat.
