As the season winds down, the Blackhawks' front office is shifting focus to who they want to keep around in the rebuild. With a majority of this year's roster gone, the Blackhawks decided to keep one newer face around for next season. The Blackhawks signed defenseman Jarred Tinordi to a one-year, $1.25 million cap hit extension.
Tinordi was claimed off waivers from the New York Rangers on Oct. 10 last year and has played in 44 games this season. He has eight points (2G, 6A) throughout the 2022-2023 campaign. He plays in the bottom defensive pairing when he isn't injured.
Although Tinordi's been on and off the injured reserve throughout the season, he still offers veteran presence and plays an enforcer role on the Blackhawks. It's unclear whether or not he'll play consistently next season depending on his injuries. Tinordi won't be playing tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins due to a hip injury.
