The NHL Admits More Room Has Been Made on Jerseys For MORE Advertisements
With the NHL admitting they have more room for jersey advertisements, it leaves a lot of questions. Will the NHL force the teams to put advertisements on their jerseys, or will the teams have a choice?
The NHL have said no to jersey advertisements for a while, simply because they are not needed. Monetization, media deals, TV deals, etc. make so much money, they don't need the extra ad revenue.
Right now, it is up to each individual franchise. News came out recently that the Edmonton Oilers have declined 50+ deals to put on their jerseys, helmets, pants, etc. Edmonton simply doesn't need the money, as they are making it off apparel deals. A couple prime examples are top jersey sellers such as
Connor McDavid with Edmonton,
Sidney Crosby with Pittsburgh, and
Patrick Kane with Chicago.
If you ask Garry Bettman, there is only one spot available. But, if you ask other people, there are a lot more available spots on the jerseys. Are they going to force the teams to put the advertisements on the jerseys, and if so, make any deals? Only time will tell.
