Toronto Maple Leafs Make Controversial Decision on Pride Night
Like many other teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs will be celebrating the LGBTQ+ community during their annual Pride Night game against the Columbus Blue Jackets this evening. However, it's worth noting that the team will not be wearing special Pride themed warmup jerseys as they have always stuck to their usual warmup attire.
Nevertheless, they will be donning special helmet decals throughout the game and featuring messages supporting the LGBTQ+ community on the arena video screen during stoppages in play. The Maple Leafs have been participating in Pride Night celebrations since 2017, and this year, head coach Sheldon Keefe and defenseman Morgan Rielly showed their support by wearing rainbow-themed t-shirts during media availability in the morning.
«I believe actions speak louder than words,» Morgan Rielly said today. «And especially speak louder than attire.»
