Toronto Maple Leafs May Lose Fan Favorite Forward Due To Cap Space
The Toronto Maple Leafs had another disappointing summer after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately for Leafs Nation Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas wasn't able to make any major changes due to the Leafs cap issues.
Kyle Dubas has put the Toronto Maple Leafs in a bad spot, by signing Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and Nylander to massive contracts leaving very little for the rest of the team.
During free agency, Dubas did manage to scoop up discount depth, and one of these depth pieces including Stanely cup-winning Nicolas Aube-Kubel, at a discount of one year $1,000,000 deal.
Unfortunately for Dubas, he may be losing somebody else..
Leafs forward Michael Bunting is also seemingly due for a raise after next season, with his career year of 63 points in 2021-2022.
Bunting spent most of his season, until his injury on the first line with Matthews. During that period, Matthews was far more dangerous with Bunting on the ice, than without as the two generated instant chemistry.
The Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas is going to have a tough decision but can find the cash to retain Bunting with a raise, at this point you wonder how strong the SOO Greyhounds connection is, this late in the in the off-season with Bunting able to sign an extension before his contract expires.
