During the off-season, there are numerous available goalies for NHL teams to consider. Jeff Marek discussed the Chicago Blackhawks' pressing need for a reliable goalie on his 32 Thoughts Podcast.

While Mackenzie Blackwood has been suggested as a potential candidate, Marek also raised the possibility of the Minnesota Wild being a viable option of where to acquire their next starting goalie.

Given the Chicago Blackhawks' current cap space of $40 million, it may not be a completely unreasonable move to offer-sheet goalie Filip Gustavsson of the Minnesota Wild.

Gustavsson has completed four seasons and is now eligible for arbitration. It is unclear how much he will request, but the Blackhawks have the means to cover his expenses. However, this will depend on whether the Wild issue a qualifying offer to the promising goalie..

A $866,250 qualifying offer is required to retain the RFA rights of Filip Gustavsson. The qualifying offer is equal to 105% of the previous contract's final season base salary because the salary was greater than $600,000 and less than $1,000,000.

FILIP GUSTAVSSON QUALIFYING OFFER

It's exciting to think about what Davidson can do with the cap space available and still continue the rebuild.
