The Chicago Blackhawks have officially entered the rebuild zone. The problem with the Blackhawks' rebuild is that they're still fighting the salary cap. They've got some relief at the moment with both Brent Seabrook and Andrew Shaw on long term injured reserve however both players could be ready to go once the season starts. It would cause a pretty big head ache as the Blackhawks only have about $5million in salary cap space and restricted free agent Dylan Strome remains unsigned. Not good news with Seabrook and Shaw earning a combined $10million on the cap. Seabrook has made it clear he won't waive his no movement clause in a trade, however The Athletic's Mark Lazerus reports that he would be willing to waive it for something else. Lazerus reports that according to a source Seabrook would be willing to waive his no movement clause to join the Seattle Kraken. "A source close to Seabrook said he has no intention of waiving his NMC, but that same source didn't rule out the idea of Seabrook going to Seattle in the expansion draft, if the Blackhawks can swing a side deal with the Kraken to make that happen."
It's a move that would give Seattle some Stanley Cup winning experience in the locker room and would bring Seabrook closer to British Columbia, Canada.
