The tweets were extensive and extremely detailed to what Lehner had to say regarding a wide range of topics including his father, the NHLPA, the league and how he is handling being bipolar.
In his second tweet he mentions that this was fiction and that the account was hacked likely to help protect himself from any legal action depending on what he has said on his account.
Lehnar's career had much promise as he was drafted by the Ottawa Senators back in 2009, second round, 46th overall. He stayed with the senators for five seasons which began in 2010 and ended in 2015.
He also had stops with the Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, the Blackhawks and
the Vegas Golden Knights. For the bulk of his career he was always a high 9 hundreds save percentage goaltender with many seasons under 2.50 goals against.
His career began to spiral after he battled with mental health issues which were later discovered as a bipolar disorder diagnosis. The 33-year-old was in the final year of his contract which he signed with the Golden Knights at a 5 year $25 million contract.
His last game was in April of 2022 as he went for hip surgery.
He failed to take a medical exam and after some legal wrangling with general manager Kelly McCrimmon and the NHLPA, Lehner was able to get his check for $4.4 million for the season.
Many across the NHL were worried about his health as he had gone silent, and no one knew where he had went.
In the end the NHL along with the NHLPA would like Lehner to get all the help he can have as he continues to work through his issues, and we wish him the best in these troubling times.
