The World junior championship tournament is set to begin after Christmas it appears that Team Canada is comfortable in adding the growing phenom even at such a young age.
He has burst onto the scene of the hockey world over the past couple of years as he has shown that he is breaking records and has produced more then Bedard has at the same age.
Standing at six feet and 165 lbs at the age of 16 and according to Eliteprospects.com has pegged him as a cerebral tactician, heavy shooter and an offensive forward.
For the past few years, he's been playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL and through 30 games so far this season, he has 19 goals with 41 assists for 60 points and is a + 24.
It's likely he will eclipse his numbers from the previous year where he had 34 goals and 97 points through 61 games.
Mckenna is pegged to be eligible for the NHL draft in the 2026 and will likely spark constant debate much like his cousin Connor Bedard who went first overall two years ago.
It seems the next generation of NHL stars already merging in front of us with players like Bedard, Mckenna, Leo Carlsson, Macklin Celebrini and many more.
Bedard is currently going through a bit of a sophomore slump as he has had trouble finding his scoring touch as the Blackhawks continue to wrestle with the season and has seen their head coach Luke Richardson dismissed and rookie head coach Anders Sorensen take over.
The tournament is slated to be held in Ottawa ON from December 26th through the first week of January.
