"Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is getting closer to playing his 1000th career game, all in a Blackhawks' uniform something he didn't imagine. The 31 year old recently appeared on the Dropping The Gloves podcast and reflected on his time in Chicago including the 2006 NHL Draft. Toews was selected 3rd overall by Chicago something he didn't believe would happen. According to Toews, word around the draft was that the Blackhawks were actually going to select forward Phil Kessel at #3. Toews added that leading into the draft he believed he was going to get selected 2nd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins but instead Pittsburgh went with Jordan Staal at #2. Kessel ended up going #5 overall to the Boston Bruins as Washington decided to select Nicklas Backstrom at #4.Can you imagine if the Hawks would have selected Kessel over Toews?
