NHL commissioner Gary Bettman forced team to travel 56,700 miles in 2024 season
There's been much talk about NHL favoritism, especially regarding teams in no-income-tax states and their advantage in winning the Stanley Cup, thanks to Gary Bettman.
Another concern is the uneven travel schedule. This year's Stanley Cup final highlighted the issue, featuring the longest travel distance in NHL history between two cities.
The Dallas Stars traveled the most last season, flying 56,700 miles, while the Florida Panthers were close behind.
In contrast, teams like the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins traveled significantly less due to their proximity to other teams on the East Coast.
Despite concerns that heavy travel might affect players' performances, teams like the Florida Panthers have proven they can overcome them to win championships.
Changes to the NHL's travel schedule seem unlikely anytime soon.
