New York Islanders defenseman Mike Reilly had a scary moment Friday night against the Buffalo Sabres that left fans and teammates on edge.
About halfway through the game, Reilly got checked along the boards by Sabres forward Jordan Greenway.
It seemed like a normal play, but Reilly took a hard fall, hitting his head on the ice and lying still for several seconds, leaving the arena in silence.
Things quickly got serious as trainers from both teams rushed out to help. Even the arena's medical team brought out a stretcher, thinking Reilly might need to be taken to the hospital.
This level of response in hockey only happens when there's a really bad injury, so the crowd knew something serious might be going on when the stretcher was brought out.
Fortunately, after a long pause and a careful check from the trainers, it turned out Reilly was not as badly hurt as it first seemed.
He didn't need the stretcher and was able to get to his feet with some help. The trainers walked him back to the bench as he skated slowly over.
Reilly went to the locker room to be looked over, but it's a good sign that he was able to leave the ice on his own.
The Islanders plan to update everyone on Reilly's condition later tonight, so check back for more on how he's doing.
