The NHL is keeping a close eye on a developing situation unfolding between two teams.
League Takes Action on Possible Retaliation
Recent reports from Elliotte Friedman reveal that the NHL has issued warnings to both the Detroit Red Wings and the Vancouver Canucks regarding potential retaliation against
Jake Walman.
"It's clear that some people felt something should've been done in response to that incident. It's likely both teams will receive a warning before their upcoming game this week, given the recent incident involving Rielly,"
says Friedman.
Following Walman's game-winning goal in overtime, he celebrated with a move called the 'griddy'. While some fans loved it, others found it disrespectful. As the two teams prepare to meet again, speculation about potential retaliation has intensified.
The celebration can be seen below:
While opinions on the celebration may differ, scoring a game-winning goal in overtime is a memorable moment, especially for a young player like Walman, and deserves recognition, but it will most definitely place a target on his back.
