After an amazing year, many wondered if Phil Kessel would retire, especially after his record-breaking iron man streak.

However, Kessel made it clear he still wanted to play at the start of the year. It's obvious he loves playing hockey and wants to be part of a team to help mentor younger players.

According to TheLeafsNation, Pierre LeBrun provided an update on Kessel's thoughts this season.

It sounds like Kessel is still hopeful about getting signed and is doing everything he can to rejoin a team.

Despite his fantastic career, his eagerness to play will likely lead to him securing an NHL contract... could it be with the Chicago Blackhawks, who lost a key veteran presence in Corey Perry?

Given that Kessel is only 36 years old and has been a proven winner throughout his career, with 992 points in 1286 career games, he's close to hitting the 1,000-point mark and is a three-time Stanley Cup winner, making him a solid option for a contender or a rebuilding organization in need of a veteran player.
