Blackhawks Connor Bedard makes a major revelation about teammate Lukas Reichel
The Chicago Blackhawks need to once again refresh the roster after the team has underperformed this season.
Instead of improving as advertised by GM Kyle Davidson, they'll have to consider moving on from multiple players.
One of those players is Lukas Reichel, the former 2020 1st-round draft pick who has yet to live up to draft selection.
This season he's played 40 games and scored only 13 points( 4 G, 9 A) and has found himself stapled to the fourth line the majority of the year.
With Connor Bedard's latest statement in the media, complimenting Reichel's play, could the Blackhawks relent?
Connor Bedard on Lukas Reichel's speed: "He FLIES. It's absurd how fast that guy goes. And his hands can move at the same time, his brain can move at the same time, and that's rare when you're going that fast and you can make those plays. He's fun to watch."
Honestly, the Blackhawks wouldn't be able to get much for Reichel considering the fact he's only been given another 2 years to prove it.
«[Reichel's] name started to percolate a little bit in league trade circles over the last couple weeks. Remember the healthy scratches just to start 2025; three times in the last five games I believe Reichel sat out as a healthy scratch. And look, he's been someone that's been given a ton of opportunity. He's played in some prime positions in the lineup at times. He's had his ice time adjusted both up and down depending on how he's impacting games, and he's someone that obviously has the wheels and talent to make an impact but we haven't seen that on a consistent enough basis.
«Yet, I think that leaves some teams wondering if there's something else that might be there. Nothing imminent on that front, but I do believe the Hawks started to receive some calls on Reichel's availability.»
And much like another NHL player with the New York Rangers,
Kaapo Kakko, the return wouldn't be enough to justify losing him when he could become a star elsewhere.
With Bedard's statement, maybe the Blackhawks could decide to keep Reichel as his cap hit is only $1.2 million AAV, and will be a pending RFA in 2025-2026.
He may be another player from the 2020 draft, like
Quinton Byfield who takes a little bit longer to develop.
With the 2023 1st overall pick's backing, you wouldn't want to break up that chemistry in the locker room, would you Kyle?
