Is Elias Pettersson on his way to Chicago? Several reports over the past two weeks unveil the Vancouver Canucks' star Swedish-born forward is actively being shopped, and the Blackhawks land as a premium landing spot for the 26-year old.

Conflicting reports out of Vancouver last NHL season touched base on the fact of a possible rift in the Canucks locker room between their two star forwards, Elias Pettersson and J.T Miller, their two alternate captains.

As the midway point of the 2024-25 NHL season approached, their locker room rift became evident to the media, to the point where their general manager had to address it, including well known NHL insiders, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman addresses that locker room drama between Miller, Pettersson is 'taking it's toll' on the team.

Blackhawks in play to acquire Elias Pettersson, according to team reporter Mark Lazerus of The Athletic

Mark Lazerus, a longtime reporter for the NHL that has covered the Chicago Blackhawks for many years, believes the Blackhawks must 'do everything they can' to acquire Elias Pettersson from the Vancouver Canucks.

Lazerus notes that Pettersson, a playmaker and goalscorer, is the ideal complement for Connor Bedard in Chicago.

A 26-year old center with 100-point potential, would certainly give the 19-year old former first overall pick someone with the same caliber of drive and skill to thrive with.

Bedard has already produced 102 points in his first 114 NHL games with very limited support, imagine Pettersson on his side? Lazerus revealed what the Blackhawks may have to sacrifice for the team to acquire Pettersson, and it may be worth it.

«Nazar might be good. Korchinski might be good. The No. 20-something pick might be good. Pettersson is great. And he's great now,» Lazerus stated.

Acquiring Pettersson at this point of the season would be crucial for the Blackhawks, as they can get Bedard and the Swedish forward going on the same line for the remainder of the regular season, building a strong connection going into a fresh-start of a 2025-26 NHL season.

«They won't ever get there with just one star".
Said Lazerus, meaning Bedard can't carry the Blackhawks to the playoffs all alone.

Acquiring Pettersson would certainly accelerate this rebuild, and provide stability up front; something Kyle Davidson has attempted to do through signing aging- veterans such as Tyler Bertuzzi, Nick Foligno and Pat Maroon, but the last-placed team in the league being the Blackhawks certainly proves that Davidson did not do a proper job this off-season.
