The deal would send six-time All-Star defenseman Doug Wilson to the Sharks, the newest NHL expansion team for a draft pick and a prospect.
Wilson who was 34 at the time, was a former Norris Trophy winner in 1981-1982 and spent 14 years with the Hawks then.
He would then be named Captain of the newest team in the league, in 1991 and the Blackhawks would receive 20-year-old right-wing Kerry Toporowski, the Fourth-round pick in the 1991 draft, and a 2nd round pick in 1992. The 2nd round pick in 1992 would be traded to the Winnipeg Jets for Boris Mironov.
Wilson had a no-trade clause in his contract at the time, but after three seasons playing for Mike Keenan, he wanted a fresh start.
Wilson would play two seasons with the San Jose Sharks before retiring from the NHL in 1993.
The San Jose Sharks would hire Wilson as a General Manager a decade later in 2003, replacing Dean Lombardi, and is known for building one of the most competitive Sharks teams in 2016.
He would retire from the position in 2022 after being on medical leave since November 6th, 2021.
Kerry Toporowski spent the majority of his career in the minors playing with the Indianapolis Ice during the 1991-1992 season, after his trade to the Hawks.
Boris Mironov wouldn't arrive in the NHL until the 1993-1994 season and would begin his career in the league, with the Edmonton Oilers.
