The Blackhawks are mandated to improve the team's roster, as they want to push forward the rebuild. According to Davidson, the timeline could moved forward as soon as this off-season.

According to The Athletic's Scott Powers, the Carolina Hurricanes could be trading Center Martin Necas very soon. Would the Blackhawks be one of the front-runners for Necas?

Davidson has treated the Blackhawks roster with the attention it needs, giving veteran players short-term deals, while players like Alex Vlasic develop from within ultimately.

It's to be expected when Connor Bedard, Kevin Korchinski, and Frank Nazar's ELCs expire, they could be signed here in the long term as well, like teammate Vlasic. Davidson continues to be mindful of what prospects are in the pipeline, to let them properly develop into NHL players, before making major decisions elsewhere.

Necas could ultimately be a fit, due to his age and his contract could expire before his prime ultimately ends in his 30s, if signed long-term. In that instance, Necas could be beneficial to the rebuild, and as a 6'2" forward help create space on the ice.

«Corey's tracking data shows how good he is at carrying the puck, and he's obviously great at creating chances, but feels like he's a borderline top-line scorer who needs to be sheltered,» The Athletic's Dominik Luszczyszyn explained of the chart.

The Blackhawks and Hurricanes will need to decide on value for Necas, as a player whether the next GM wants picks or prospects, as the Blackhawks could move the 18th overall for Necas. They could also package a prospect plus a pick for the forward, but Davidson and the Hawks will have to figure out if he fits the team's direction.

Necas is a great offensive forward, but will need to work on his defensive game:

«Corey's tracking data shows how good he is at carrying the puck, and he's obviously great at creating chances, but feels like he's a borderline top-line scorer who needs to be sheltered,» The Athletic's Dominik Luszczyszyn explained of the chart.

Necas could be placed alongside Bedard, but it seemed the young forward wants to play center, which has resulted in a mismatch more often than not in Carolina.

Necas could fit into the Blackhawks' long-term plans, even as his projected $7.5 Million AAV, contract could fit under the cap currently, does that make him fit long-term? According to Luszczyszyn's model, there's a slight difference in what he should make with the Blackhawks compared, along with his role which could be much, much different with the Blackhawks' analytical staff could factor in whether he becomes a Blackhawk or not.
