Chicago Blackhawks Consider Trading Seth Jones As Interest Builds Up
The Blackhawks are listening to offers on Seth Jones and are reportedly nearing a deal, per Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.
Years ago, when Jones signed his contract given to him on a golden plate by general manager Stan Bowman, it was near impossible to see any team ever willing to take on that cap hit.
Now, with the NHL salary cap set to substantially rise through the next three seasons, opportunity is rising for the Blackhawks to finally get out of the mess Stan Bowman failed to clean up before he exited.
Jones, 30, is signed until the 2029-2030 season, and is deemed one of the worst contracts in the NHL at this point.
Seravalli offered inside details on a Jones trade, and it sounds like a reuinion with his former team is potential.
"Due to the massive salary cap increases agreed upon between the NHL and NHLPA make it easier for the Hawks to move Jones? Maybe. At $9.5 million, Jones will count for just 8 percent of the cap three seasons from now. Yes, he will be 33 then, but he is such a gifted and effortless skater there shouldn't be any concern on the age curve chart. Jones has averaged 25:18 over four seasons in Chicago. He is a fine defenseman, just an overpaid one, and the Blackhawks are willing to be creative to move a player who doesn't necessarily line up with their timeline. Sounds like talks are picking up on that front."
The Blue Jackets are noted as the leading suitor for Jones, who spent six years in Columbus before being dealt to the Blackhawks.
Their general manager, Don Waddell, is known for making bold-trade deadline moves, and general manager Kyle Davidson is most definitely seeking to take advantage of the circumstances.
The Blackhawks need to acquire
Connor Bedard help offensively, and Columbus has sought after young talent who would fit well with him.
Jones has a no-movement clause, so if he's going to approve a trade, it will be to a team or situation where he's comfortable and familiar. Columbus makes a ton of sense.

As the trade deadline looms, buckle up Blackhawks fans!
