Chicago Blackhawks player officially says goodbye to the organization
Tyler Johnson is a two-time Stanley Cup champion who the Blackhawks thought would be an impact player.
This was not the case in Chicago, as he was a good depth option in Chicago. But in hindsight, the trade didn't work for either side.
He had 31 points(17 G, 13 A) on a team that isn't a high-caliber offense or have as many offensive weapons which could explain Johnson's unremarkable time here.
He went from being a good bottom-six option on a Stanley Cup-winning team, to a rebuilding Blackhawks organization.
«I'm obviously thankful for being here. I've met a lot of good people,» Johnson said at locker clean out. «But it wasn't exactly what I had envisioned or wanted. It was way different. I met some really good people, made some really good friends that I'm going to have forever, so that's been great.»
It sounds like Tyler Johnson is ready to move on from a team, which didn't offer what he wanted in an organization. So, as an unrestricted free agent, he can test free agency and end up on a contending team's roster.
With Johnson only ever playing for two teams with the Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning, it seems unlikely he will get a huge paycheck with his next team. But he sounds more interested in post-season play more than anything, which should draw plenty of eyeballs to the bottom-six forward.
«I was talking with some of the guys the other day and just talking about playoffs just got me all ramped up,» Johnson said. «That's where it's all at and that's where I've always loved. I've always just wanted to be a part of that and when you're not, especially the last three years here just doing what we're doing's been pretty tough. I always try to stay positive with everything but it really just kind of grinds for a bit and I'd definitely like to try to get back to that.»
Teams Rumored to be interested in John are as follows:
The Seattle Kraken, want to strengthen their bottom-six depth. He could also be utilized in a power-play role here.
He could return to the Tampa Bay Lightning whom he started his career with and be signed for a discount.
And it sounds like Kyle Dubas could be interested in Johnson as an option for the Penguins bottom-six, thanks to his versatility and ability to be moved up and down the lineup.
