A major development in the Chicago Blackhawks acquiring Mikko Rantanen in free agency, per NHL insider Elliotte Friedman following the blockbuster three-way swap between the Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes.

The Blackhawks were a broker in a major three-way trade in the NHL last night, which saw multiple star players heading different directions.

Now Elliotte Friedman reports that there's something bigger going on for the Blackhawks, and it's not imminent, but this off-season Blackhawks fans must buckle up for a huge acquisition in free agency for Chicago.

The Blackhawks received legitimately nothing but a third round draft pick in 2025, for Taylor Hall (a former 1st overall pick) and 50% of Mikko Rantanen's salary retained.

Chicago legitimately tried to keep him(Hall), but this is a winning opportunity in the moment.

But according to Friedman, it was a calculated move for Chicago. This off-season, they plan to sign Mikko Rantanen to pair with Connor Bedard, and ultimately bolster the Blackhawks offence.

«If Rantanen does hit the market this summer, it wouldn't be a stunner to see [the Blackhawks] make a run at him,»

The post has quickly erupted, with over 30k views in just two hours time. Blackhawks fans are excited to potentially see the 6'4" left-handed winger pair up alongside right-handed sensation, Connor Bedard.

Having played with Nathan MacKinnon over the past several season, Rantanen is no stranger to playing alongside generational talent, like Bedard.

While fans may be frustrated with the return, and Kyle Davidson's lack of 'expertise' in this move, there is a bright side to it that will be shown this off-season in free agency.
