With the recent shocking death of former Pittsburgh Penguins forward, Adam Johnson involving a skate blad to the neck, injuries to the head have certainly gained more attention, and, coincidentally, more of these incidents are occurring at the moment.

The Vancouver Canucks and the San Jose Sharks faced off against each other yesterday, and it appeared that Sharks goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen suffered a head injury, which almost resulted in Canucks forward Andrei Kuzmenko making contact with Kahkonen's neck with his skate blade.

After the collision, Kuzmenko showed good sportsmanship by skating over to the goaltender and asking if he was okay. Kahkonen then skated to the dressing room for concussion protocol.

Following Johnson's tragic death, the NHL swiftly made a decision that organizations could implement neckguards for their minor teams as they see fit. The discussion for the NHL teams themselves will require more meetings and evaluation by the NHL Player Safety, the NHL Board of
Governors, and the Players' Association.

The Sharks continue their brutal start, going 0-8-1 through nine games, while the Canucks have unexpectedly started well with a record of 6-2-1.
