In what could be his final season in the NHL, Marc-André Fleury will undoubtedly go out in famous Flower style.
The term «Hall of Famer» has become synonymous with the soon-to-be 39 year old net minder basically since he was drafted by the Penguins in 2003. He was setting records from the beginning, being only the 3rd goalie in NHL history to be chosen first, following Rick DiPietro (NYI, 2003) and Michel Plasse (MTL, 1968).
Coincidentally, he also became the 3rd goalie in NHL history to win 500 games, back in 2021. As a Blackhawk, he fittingly made 29 saves against Monntréal, and recorded his 69th shutout at the same time. Currently, he has 73 shutouts, putting him 12th on the all-time list, and 1st among active goalies.
This season, the Flower has the opportunity to reach 1000 games played, as he has played 985, up to this point; which is the most among active goalies, and 4th overall, behind Roy (1029), Luongo (1044), and Brodeur (who will most likely hold on to his 1266 record for a very, very long time). Chances are, Fleury could catch Roy's record on two fronts - games played and wins, of which Roy is only 7 ahead, at 551.
Marc-André won 3 Stanely Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He won the Vezina and Jennings Trophies with the Golden Knights. And he made 500 wins with the Chicago Blackhawks. No matter what team he's on, it's impossible for him to not make history. Can't wait to see what's in store for the Wild Flower this season.
