Minnesota Wild's goalie recently moved past his childhood idol Patrick Roy for 2nd place on the NHL's all-time win list for goalies, but could the future Hall of Famer soon be on the move as the NHL Trade Deadline approaches?
Right now, the playoffs are anything but a sure thing for the Wild, who started the year in a massive slump that resulted in the firing of head coach Dean Evason. And despite improvements on the ice, the team remains hot and cold.
During an appearance on TSN's Insider Trading, LeBrun disclosed that the Wild have no current intention to trade Fleury due to GM Bill Guerin's belief that they can still contend for the playoffs.
"I know there are some teams waiting for the appropriate time to reach out to Wild GM Bill Guerin to ask him what's going on there, but I didn't wait, I reached out to Bill Guerin on this day and asked him about Marc-Andre Fleury's future," LeBrun said.
"What Guerin said is that they haven't given up on the season; he thinks they can have a second half surge and still believe they can be a playoff team. So, they're not going to have a Marc-Andre Fleury situation if that's the case. But Guerin acknowledged that yes, if they fall out of it, he expects teams to call and expects to have a discussion with Marc-Andre Fleury."
LeBrun then stated that it will be imperative for Fleury to have a conversation with his agent about the potential of waiving his no-trade clause to facilitate a potential move, but that it won't be to a destination where he'll get no playing time.
"Fleury has to have that discussion in the next couple weeks with his agent, Allen Walsh," LeBrun said. "They have a full no-move (clause) and it's up to Walsh and Fleury if he goes anywhere before the Deadline, we don't know the answer to that yet. But there are some obvious teams to think about. Toronto tried to trade for him two years ago - different GM, but nevertheless, the Leafs still have question marks in net. Edmonton, how about a mentor for Stuart Skinner? New Jersey, they haven't had saves all year. Carolina, how about a mentor to (Pyotr) Kochetkov?" "There are some obvious places where Marc-Andre Fleury would fit if he has a meaningful role - he won't waive to be a backup who doesn't play. We'll see where this goes."
Stay tuned to find out where Fleury's next destination will be..
