Patrick Kane reveals his true feelings for the Blackhawks ahead of United Center return
Kane's Return to Chicago: A Night with a Chip on the Shoulder
It will be an exciting night on February 25th as Patrick Kane returns to the United Center when the Detroit Red Wings take on the Chicago Blackhawks.
This game has extra significance as it aligns with the retirement ceremony for Blackhawks legend Chris Chelios, who'll have his jersey raised to the rafters.
Sharing his excitement, Kane said:
"It'll be fun to go back there on February 25th. Chelios' jersey going up and the first game back on the road, so it'll be a fun night."
As we look forward to Kane's return, the question is how he'll feel. When asked, Kane replied:
"I have no idea. I've always played with a bit of a chip on the shoulder, so hopefully I have a little bit that night and can play a good game and help the Wings win."
Expressing his desire to make an impact on the scoreboard, Kane added:
"It would be fun to score a goal or have a couple of points, whatever it is. Just to play well against them."
Looking back at the offseason, Kane shared that he had hoped for a call from the Blackhawks about a potential return, but it never happened.
"Yeah, I mean, I never really knew, right? Especially after that first pick, I was like, OK, maybe they'll try to bring, even like Tazer or myself back."
"I know when I was a young guy, it really helped having some older guys around like Robert Lang, (Martin) Havlat, Yanick Perrault and Patrick Lalime, guys like that. Obviously, we had some young guys coming up that were pretty special players, and that made it pretty easy on me, too. It seemed like they wanted to go in a direction where they were going to bring in some different type of veterans. Yeah, it's what it is. Good for them. You don't think about it too much."
Despite recognizing the shift in the Blackhawks' direction, Kane remains focused on contributing to the success of the Red Wings and delivering a memorable performance in his return to Chicago.
