Hockey has changed ever since the death of Adam Johnson when he got his neck cut by a skate blade.

Players took it by themselves not too far after the death to wear extra protection, but today, a hockey league made it mandatory.

The AHL, NHL's minor league hockey developmental league, made it mandatory for players and on-ice officials to wear neck guards during games.

It was unanimously voted by the AHL's board of governors.

This is a huge step in the right direction. There are so many young lives at stake here, and where many talents start their professional hockey careers.

The last thing players need to worry about is being cut by a blade, and the cautions are being put in place to not have that happen.

Hopefully other hockey leagues follow suit.
