The Humboldt Broncs crash was very tragic and left much havoc and sadness in people's lives in 2018.

However, we're in 2024 and many survivors haven't given up and continue to do their best and be their best selves.

One of them is Jacob Wasserman, who has done something great and has qualified for the Paris Paralympics in 2023.

He will be competing in PR1 in the men's single rowing category, the 24-year-old was one survivor of the 2018 bus crash, of which sixteen people were killed, 13 were injured, and Wasserman was paralyzed from the navel down.

Wasserman was a major goaltender standout during his too-short career, with a 14-9-5 record in 28 games in his first year of junior hockey in 2017-2018.

He would also make two starts with the WHL's Regina St. Pats, won one of them, along with the SJHL Rookie of the Year title, and represented his Humboldt Broncos at the 2028 CJHL top prospects game.

Wasserman would take up rowing after his injuries and would compete in many events, including winning Silver at the Continental Qualification Regatta in Brazil, earlier this month, and needs a quota reallocation spot to transfer to the Paralympics.

Rowing has been part of the Paralympic Games since the 2008 event in Beijing. The events are split up into three different categories PR1, PR2 and PR3. According to the Paris 2024 website, the PR1 category is «reserved for rowers without trunk or leg function using two oars.»

The rowing portion of the Paralympics will be held from Aug. 30 Sept. 1, featuring both men's and women's events. Future qualification events are set to be held in South Korea, Hungary and Switzerland ahead of the final event later this summer
