At 38, the forward is still an effective 3rd and 4th line grinder, who can help create space on ice and score in the dirty areas, just what a playoff team like the Oilers needs.
Could Perry be staying long-term? According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has said that Corey Perry would like a long-term contract, and stay in Edmonton should whoever is the Oiler's next GM is willing to sign him.

According to Seravalli, it sounds like Perry will not be considering retirement next season and would like to stay in Edmonton.
With Ken Holland retiring at the end of the season as Oilers GM, the 39-year-old, if the next GM does see Perry as a good match with the Oilers, it would seem that Perry will re-sign there.
Perry's 26 games as an Oiler have been great for the team, as he is a source of depth scoring, and brings needed grit to the bottom-six.
He has also been his usual pest self in between whistles, never change Corey!
If the Oilers do end up winning a Stanley Cup, it would of course introduce the Stanley Cup tax to the team, bringing the cost of forwards up.
However, would Perry take a discount in that case to stay in Edmonton?
