Bruins Captain Marchand Talks About Incident with Coach Montgomery
During Saturday night's game between the Boston Bruins and the Utah Hockey Club, there was a brief altercation between Boston Bruins' captain Brad Marchand and head coach Jim Montgomery.
The incident caught attention, but both Marchand and Montgomery have since downplayed the situation and have even pointed fingers at the media for blowing it out of proportion.
Montgomery spoke to the media on Thursday, saying that there was no need for a talk after the altercation.
He praised Marchand for being a pro and a great player, mentioning that they are both emotional people/players, and things like this happen in the heat of the moment.
"Between Marchy & I, there didn't need to be a conversation. He & I are both emotional people. I'm not ecstatic w/myself about it, but I don't think about it afterward & neither does he. He's a pro & a great player that does so many things."
Marchand also gave his thoughts after the morning skate.
Brad Marchand on reaction to the bench incident with Jim Montgomery in Utah: "That's a thing? People are very sensitive these days. It's unfortunate how coaches are scrutinized for things like that. There's a lack of accountability nowadays because people can't handle the heat."
Brad Marchand appreciated his head coach Jim Montgomery's approach, saying it's important to be held accountable for mistakes on the ice, fans and many can definitely echo this as Marchand is the teams captain.
The captain made it clear that the incident was no big deal, and he values direct feedback from his coach.
It is obvious that both Brad Marchand and head coach Jim Montgomery are on the same page, showing their strong relationship despite the occasional intense moment during games.
